Darrington Today

Darrington is a thriving rural community. At its heart are well‑used amenities like the village shop, two pubs (The Spread and the Darrington), two hotels (The Kyte and Darrington Hotel), St. Luke & All Saints church, a primary school, a communal playing field, and the nearby Mid‑Yorkshire Golf Club.

The village hosts regular events—most notably the annual “Feast and Fayre” in June, featuring stalls, a 5-mile run, and family entertainment—which reflect the strong community spirit and support fundraising for local facilities. While the historic medieval tithe barn is somewhat ruined, Darrington retains 16 listed buildings (one Grade I) and balances heritage with modern living.

Administratively, the parish encompasses about 1,220 hectares with roughly 1,400 electors, funded through an annual precept from Wakefield Council, and is governed by a Parish Council that meets monthly (excluding August).

Situated just off major transport links like the A1 and close to Pontefract, Wakefield and Doncaster, it attracts commuters as well as long‑standing farming families. Despite its rural charm, Darrington offers a balanced lifestyle—blending agricultural heritage, community‑led events, local businesses, and excellent connectivity.
