St Luke & All Saints Church, Darrington

St Luke & All Saints Church stands on Church Lane in the heart of Darrington and has been an important part of village life for centuries. The church is a welcoming place for worship, reflection and community, and welcomes everyone, whether attending a service, visiting the historic building or simply enjoying the peaceful surroundings.

A Church with a Long History

There has been a church in Darrington since at least the 11th century, and the present building contains significant medieval fabric. The church has a Norman tower, with the aisles and chancel dating largely from the 13th century. The building was altered during the 14th and 15th centuries and was restored in 1880.

The church is built mainly from local magnesian limestone and has a distinctive square west tower. Its long history and surviving medieval features make it an important part of Darrington's heritage.

St Luke & All Saints is a Grade I listed building, recognising its exceptional historic and architectural interest. It was first listed in 1967.

A Place for the Community

The church continues to play an active role in village life. Regular worship takes place throughout the year, and the church is also used for baptisms, weddings and funerals. It provides a place for people to come together at important moments in their lives, as well as a quiet space for prayer and reflection.

The church is part of the Went Valley Benefice within the Diocese of Leeds, alongside churches in Wentbridge and Kirk Smeaton.

The church also has close links with Darrington Church of England Primary School, with pupils visiting for special services during the year.
